Cross the Big Ocean!

That long ocean voyage can be a fantastic trip from Hawaii to the mainland. Some sailors swear that this is the best direction to sail. It's a great way to get your sea legs in a cruising-style crossing.

USCG Captain, Will deliver your vessel with great care. Over 20 years experience on the west coast.

Tim TiefenbachDillon, CO43

Have plane ticket and looking for crew position from Hawaii to West coast. I had already secured a crew position on a boat (not a Pacific Cup racer) returning from Hawaii to S.F. The skipper was supposed to bring the boat up from Tahiti in June. Unfortunately, for various reasons, that is probably not going to happen. So I have the one way ticket to Hawaii, arriving on August 6, but no ride back to the West coast. I will provide my own transportation to and from your boat, and I'm willing to share some of the expenses. My plane ticket is changeable, and I'm available anytime in August or September.

I grew up sailing and racing on San Francisco bay, on boats up to about 43'. I have cruised in the San Juan islands and BVIs in addition to S.F. bay. I have ASA certifications for coastal cruising and bareboat chartering. I have experience with all aspects of racing, from foredeck to trimmer to helm.

I'm in excellent physical condition, no health issues, and I have no history of seasickness. I'm easygoing and I get along well with just about everybody.

Please give me a call or email if you are looking for return crew.

Currently training for the 2008 Santana 20 Nationals on the bow. I have competed in the 2008 Oregon Offshore and the 2008 Swiftsure and am looking to do more, especially offshore. I have excellent culinary skills and my years as a bartender has ensured I am able to get along with and communicate with all most anyone. As well as get you loaded. I am physically fit and have great strength to muscle the winches when needed or grind. Am able and willing on the bow. I am ALWAYS eager to learn more and I catch on fast. I ask if I dont know so as not to screw it up.

If you need a race crew I can meet the boat and the crew on the dock. If you need return delivery from Hawaii I will require airfare and stay. I am not picky....I will stay on the boat. I pack light and eat light. I always sleep with my boots on so im ready to go. Oh yeah....I have all offhsore gear including my own gumby suit.

I've been racing on San Francisco bay since 2003. In 2004-5, I logged over 30,000 sea miles participating in a global circumnavigation race on a 72' yacht. While my primary position is pit, I have experience in all other positions. I particularly enjoy spinnaker trimming and helming. I'm fairly handy on a boat, especially with sail repair. My fellow crew mates always give a thumbs up on my cooking and I get a lot of requests for my freshly baked morning rolls. USCG Captain's License (pending), STCW-95 Safety at Sea and Marine Fire Fighting, First Aid, CPR.

Please consider me as one of your returning crew. I have ample blue water experience in the south pacific (having lived in Fiji), lots of stamina, respect for the ocean, and I am very much a responsible team player. Lately, I have been enjoying racing on the San Francisco Bay and would greatly appreciate the opportunity of joining your crew on the return voyage from Hawaii. Thank you for considering my request.

I am a sailing instructor for UC Berkeley, and repair boats on the side. I have seen a fair amount of chaos as an instructor and both work well with people and can handle stressful situations well. Imagine six boats full of green sailors going in different directions in 28+ kts of wind and you can get the picture.

I have crewed the Berkeley beer can races fairly often, and enjoyed working all positions, but prefer foredeck. Although I love to race keelboats, dinghy sailing is my passion. When I am not teaching I am sailing.

I am able bodied, FA and CPR certified, and a bit of a knot nerd. I work well with others, and am hoping to learn something from you blue water cruisers.

N.Tarnia ChaigitBC, Canada26

My name is Tarnia. I am looking for more extreme ocean/offshore opportunities to be both racing and returning crew in the Pacific Cup. In the past 10 years, I've done more than 20,000 miles offshore. I've raced/sailed/skippered/delivered professionally. The last biggest event that I was involved was the Rolex Sydney Hobart 2007 which I trained and qualified the British Vessel, Flying Fish in the race (but due to my head concusssion accident 4 days before the race in one of our qualifying passages, I could not continue with the rest of the team). The local events in the North West Pacific I've recently done are NOOD Regatta Seattle 2008, Swiftsure International Yacht Race 2008(Swiftsure Lightship Classic Cat) and North West Pacific J-Festival 2008.

Please also visit www.goteamgratitude.com to see my complete profile and sailing/racing highlights.

I am 26 female, 5 foot one and weighs about 110 pounds in great shape, with good eye sight and passed the Seafarer’s Medical Exam (received all vaccinations needed for Commercial Seafarer).

My favourite sports besides sailing that help me build my strength and stamina: Whitewater rafting, Swimming, Badminton, Horse Riding, Abseiling, Pilates and Yoga.

My personality is easy-going, fun to be around, helpful (people call me a “very kind and considerate” person), athletic, active, enthusiastic and I can stay calm and be aware of what’s going on around me (never panic when I have to handle unexpected situations).

My profession is a business consultant and business coach. I also have my own fair trade design clothing/jewelry line that supports fair trade community around the world.

Besides what I love in Arts and Business, I take sailing and racing seriously and that’s what I want to be because I want to enjoy it for the rest of my life. I take Yacht Design/Engineering courses because I’m very determined to have my own business in yacht management and yacht design.

On the racing boats, I enjoy doing every position if I need to, flexible in that sense...I'm comfortable driving the boat up to 75 footers, at the helm of the Volvo Open 60 for the offshore test drive twice.I do pit/trimmer/grinder/helmsman most of the time. I can drive well at night and efficiently organize the crew watch system.

For tactician/navigator position and radio operating position, I request to have maximum 2 months to prepare for all information needed for each race and will be well prepared and informed by the skipper about the plans in advance.

As a marine biologist, I have thousands of nautical miles of at-sea experience doing research and naturalist work. I have been sailing on the east coast and west coast for over thirty years. I've done a blue water passage from Hawaii to Tahiti on the Alaska Eagle, and have done another passage from Portosin Spain to Palma Majorca. I LOVE to sail and do well standing watches; I don't get seasick and can cook. The work that I do puts me at sea more than on land and this is what I love! Very Important: '66' is just a number!!!!

I am seeking a race crew position or return delivery position. I own and race my Islander 36 in Hawaii, have done extensive interisland sailing and crewed for several boats down in the Marshall Islands. I have US Sailing Bareboat Charter Certification from J World Sailing School in San Francisco and really want to experience a long passage. I'm easy going and get along with just about anyone, work hard and would be willing to do any job. I teach at Leeward Community College so have plenty of time off with a flexible schedule. Sign me up!

Well I can't compete with the level of skill posted on this site. All I have is day sailing 22 footers out of San Diego bay, and 18ft catamaran experience. I am willing to do the just about whatever is asked of me in the boat operations, just to get the experience. If crew plans fall through for you as skipper, I can be ready within a day. I am willing to be part of the race team, or return to mainland crew.

I have actively crewed for the past 5 years out of Newport Beach, San Pedro and San Diego, CA on: a Beneteau 405 for 1 1/2 years, an Etchells for 3 years, an Ultimate 30 for 1 year, F27 Corsair Trimaran for 4 years and a German Frers 50 for 3 years. I own a Lido 14 that I have sailed more than 30 times in the past 3 years in the Long Beach area.

I have received >120 hrs instruction at OCC School of Sailing and Seamanship on Lidos, Shields, racing clinics and navigation.

I have worked as an Emergency Medical Technician on a 911 ambulance for the past 1 1/2 years, I'm a Scuba diver with gear and mechanically inclined with my own tools, but with little diesel experience. I'm in good physical condition and conversant in Spanish.

I'd very much love an opportunity for a crew position for a return trip from the Trans-Pac.
I have 20 years of experience in the best charter boat cruising grounds of the world including: Caribbean, Pacific coast, Mexico, Greek Islands, Central America and Gulf Coast. Passages include to and from Mexico and south Florida via the Gulf of Mexico.
I hold a curent U.S. Coast Guard 12-pak license (12 years) and taught small boat and cruise boat sailing for Cass' Marina in Sausalito, CA for 8 years from 1991 to 1999 that included the sailing grounds of SF Bay, Northern California Offshore and the Greek Islands.
I am a team player with an indefatigueble love of sailing and all (or most?) of what it demands and provides.
Please call if you'd like to talk further. I am happy to provide references.
Tanks, Kimberly

I was scheduled to make the return trip on a boat that recently had to back out of the race. I’m still feeling geared up to do this trip and so am looking for a new crew spot in either direction. I’m currently living in San Diego but can fly up to SF to meet/sail. I have been sailing most of my life, starting with dinghy racing on the Chesapeake Bay and then keelboat racing on the SF Bay. Before moving to San Diego last year, I was racing every week out of Berkeley as team member on a Soverell 33 and later on a Melges 24. I mostly did trim and pit but am also comfortable on fore-deck and at the helm. I’m a competent sailor but am not stubborn about doing things this way or that way and am always looking to learn more. Since moving to San Diego last year I have sailed on various boats and done a fair amount of ocean sailing. Other skills include celestial navigation (which I would be more than happy to teach), CPR/FirstAid and decent cooking. I also communicate well, am easy to get along with and have always been liked by my fellow crewmembers. I can provide several references. Will cover my own transportation and miscellaneous costs. Hope to hear from you. Thanks!

I have owned ocean going sailboats for a least the past ten years or so and currently have an Islander 40. I have sailed SF Bay extensively although my only opne ocean experience was soloing my own boat up from San Diego and doing the Long Pac Race for the Single-handed Sailing Society last summer. I have quite a bit of paper documentation-ASA certification, Coast Guard Navigation courses, powerboat squadron courses, etc and I attended the Safety at Sea Seminar for the Pac Cup a couple of months ago. I would like to some experience on a bigger boat, in the 40 to 50 ft range, if possible.

I am a professor of veterinary medicine at UC Davis and I am resonably compatible with most people and personality types. While I intentionally chose not to go to medical school, in a pinch, my medical knowledge can come in quite handy-at least most human patients do not try to bite me. I have no intention of ever doing an emergency appendectomy on a salon table with a kitchen knife, although I think that I could probably do it. I have quite a bit of knowledge about boats and keeping them afloat and moving forward. Upfront, I am a lousy cook! The positive spin on the last statement is that I eat most everything without complaining.

If you need crew, give me a shout. Cerainly, it is a big ocean out there and one needs to know what is doing for sure. I don't think that is needs to be said, but I will say it anyway- I don't do drugs, alcohol or anything else that would interfere with performance while at sea. On the other hand, it is different set rules on shore. I am extremely dependable and can function well with short sleep and in difficult and trying situations.

Good Luck with you big adventure and I hope to join you on it or at least meet you in Hawaii.

Rick

Jose Walter CoriaNAPA, CA42 I'd like to be part of your crew for the Pacific Cup. I'm Sea Master, tecnician in electronics and mechanics and the last year I was working in sailboats making, with an argentinean shipyard (Fayd). I'm from Argentina and arrive here the last week. I'm legal resident under L2 visa (valid through 2010). The last year I was part of with UNO's crew, a 31" regate kevlar sailboat. We finished 2nd in the Rio de la Plata Championship (several races all through the year). We also made it pretty good in other minor championships. Also I'm participed in offshore/coastal races in Argentina & Uruguay. Sailed too in Chile in a Microtonner. Across the time, I've done almost everything that can be done on a racing sailboat (skipper, navigator, helmsman, boatswain, even cook!). I've sailed in boats ranging from 15" to a 63". My speaking needs improvement (I'm working on it), but I can communicate. Now I'm living in Napa,CA. My phone number is 707 265 8367. Thanks in advance. J. W. Coria 04/02/08
M. Charles FestaEast Greenwich, RI26I have been sailing on and off for about 6 years. A good chunk of my time at sea has been on open ocean voyages across the Atlantic and Pacific on schooners. I have also worked as crew aboard several yachts in Hawaii, mostly on 57 foot cutter rigs. I have worked "yard" periods on schooners, and done lots of maintenance (including varnish) on various boats. I am not a professional, but I learn quickly, and have a solid knowledge base in basic sail/line handling, sail theory, piloting, navigation (including a penchant for celestial), and basic traditional seamanship. I grew up in New England, so I have a strong "New Englander's work ethic" at sea. I am finishing my Master's Degree in Marine Affairs in May, and am looking to spend more time at sea in order to get my license. I am also very friendly and understand how to get along with my crew under the pressures of seafaring. Feel free to contact me with any questions.03/26/08
