2012 Pacific Cup Race Reaches 15 Entrants

Sailors from all across the Bay and the U.S. sign up

BERKELEY, CALIF., May 6, 2011 – The Pacific Cup Yacht Club has reached 15 entrants for its 2012 biennial race to Hawaii.  Following the mid-April conclusion of the Strictly Sail Pacific 2011 Show the Club received 10 entrants’ applications including the enrollment of J/World, the Performance School and Club.  The J/World crew were very impressive during the 2010 Pacific Cup, taking third in their division with a team of amateurs and racing coaches.

"We're very excited to once again have J/World's Hula Girl in the Pacific Cup,” said Commodore Patricia Lowther.  “We welcome their participation and look forward to seeing them at Kaneohe."

J/World is now accepting applications to participate on their team.  J/World will compete with a team comprised of six amateurs and three experienced J/World offshore racing coaches on the legendary sled Hula Girl, a "turboed" Santa Cruz 50.  Interested potential participants may be of various ability levels, from experienced offshore racers who enjoy the notion of joining a ‘turn-key’ program, to sailors who are looking to expand their horizons and learn more about offshore racing.  The program fee includes practice sessions prior to the race, all the onboard provisioning, some team gear, entry fees, port fees, and delivery fees.

Sailors interested in more information on how to join the 2012 Pacific Cup on J/World may visit www.Sailing-Jworld.com or call (510) 271-4780.  Sailors interested in sharing their resume and experience to be considered as potential crew for the 2012 Pacific Cup may post the information on the Pacific Cup website at www.PacificCup.org/crewlist.

Additional 2012 entrants include a mix of sport and cruising sailboats of all sizes.  The current mix of participants include an Antrim, several Beneteaus, a Catalina, an Olson, a Baltic, a Hobie and more.  These vessels also make up a mix of both experienced and new entrants.  The current participation list may be viewed at www.PacificCup.org and is updated regularly.  The 2012 Pacific Cup begins July 16.
