Svendsen's Boat Works Joins 2008 Pacific Cup as Sponsor

Alameda, California – February 20, 2008 -- Svendsen's Boat Works will be providing sponsorship to the 2008 Pacific Cup race from San Francisco to Hawaii, race officials announced.  The race runs every even year from San Francisco to Oahu's Kaneohe Bay 2070 downwind miles away.  Svendsen's support of the race will include an additional financial contribution for each boat that hauls out for the Pacific Cup or re-launches there after shipping home.

Svendsen's Boat Works , now in its 45th year, is a favorite destination for many racers preparing for the Pacific Cup crossing.  "What distinguishes us," says Sean Svendsen (V.P. and General Manager) "is that an ocean sailor can fully outfit his/her boat and crew in this one location."  Svendsen's yard is full service facility and performs all aspects of marine repair.  It also has an extensive on-site chandlery with over 40,000 products, a full service rigging shop and a custom metal fabrication facility.  "We take a special interest in our ocean racers," declared Sean.  "When you're heading out for a race like that, you need to be sure that your boat is solidly prepared.  We particularly like the Pacific Cup because it represents a full range of boats from little Moore 24's, to family-run 40-footers, to all-out racing platforms, and we're set up to handle them all.  Over the years we've had many race winners in the yard, as well as the teams that just want to have a fun crossing.  There's nothing like having a fast bottom when you're planning to sail downwind for a couple thousand miles."

Svendsen's Boat Works is located in the Alameda Marina, 1851 Clement Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501.  To schedule yard work phone or email: 510-522-2886 or boatyard@svendsens.com   Or schedule your haulout online at http://www.svendsens.com/boatyard/workorder.html

The Pacific Cup, organized this year by the Pacific Cup Yacht Club and the Storm Trysail Club, boasts over 70 entrants for the 2,070-mile run to Kaneohe Yacht Club in Hawaii.  For many entrants, this is their first major ocean crossing.

Pacific Cup Yacht Club (PCYC) was established in 1979 to run the biennial Pacific Cup.   PCYC's mission is to realize the dreams of 70 or more yachts full of sailors, in a competitive, safe, and fun race from San Francisco to Hawaii.  As such, its pre-race seminars are not only qualifying events for Pacific Cup participation but a way to introduce and encourage participation in offshore sailing.  www.PacificCup.org

The Storm Trysail Club (STC), reflecting in its name the sail to which sailors shorten when facing adverse conditions, is one of the world's most respected sailing clubs, with its membership comprised of skilled blue water sailors. In addition to holding various prestigious offshore racing events (among them the Fort Lauderdale to Key West Race and Pineapple Cup Montego Bay Race), STC also has developed the Storm Trysail 65 and the Box Rule that will govern its design. In 2005, STC joined together with other leading organizations, such as the St. Francis and New York Yacht Clubs, to successfully introduce the IRC rating system in North America.
