I have owned ocean going sailboats for a least the past ten years or so and currently have an Islander 40. I have sailed SF Bay extensively although my only opne ocean experience was soloing my own boat up from San Diego and doing the Long Pac Race for the Single-handed Sailing Society last summer. I have quite a bit of paper documentation-ASA certification, Coast Guard Navigation courses, powerboat squadron courses, etc and I attended the Safety at Sea Seminar for the Pac Cup a couple of months ago. I would like to some experience on a bigger boat, in the 40 to 50 ft range, if possible.

I am a professor of veterinary medicine at UC Davis and I am resonably compatible with most people and personality types. While I intentionally chose not to go to medical school, in a pinch, my medical knowledge can come in quite handy-at least most human patients do not try to bite me. I have no intention of ever doing an emergency appendectomy on a salon table with a kitchen knife, although I think that I could probably do it. I have quite a bit of knowledge about boats and keeping them afloat and moving forward. Upfront, I am a lousy cook! The positive spin on the last statement is that I eat most everything without complaining.

If you need crew, give me a shout. Cerainly, it is a big ocean out there and one needs to know what is doing for sure. I don't think that is needs to be said, but I will say it anyway- I don't do drugs, alcohol or anything else that would interfere with performance while at sea. On the other hand, it is different set rules on shore. I am extremely dependable and can function well with short sleep and in difficult and trying situations.

Good Luck with you big adventure and I hope to join you on it or at least meet you in Hawaii.

Rick
