Race Tips: The Book

Here is a book of contributions by race veterans. As with any information, you will need to decide for yourself whether to implement any or all of the suggestions here. Be alerted that, as the advice comes from different years and boats, it may not meet the current race rules for your vessel!

Shakedown, June 21-22

Our full Pacific Cup crew — Michael, John, Alan, Rich, Steve, and Paul (me) — took VALIS out on Saturday June 21, for some practice offshore. After breakfast, we left Sausalito around 10:30AM, and headed for the Golden Gate Bridge.

Thursday July 3

Fog, fog and more fog. It sure was cold last night!

Last Minute Things

Oh my, there are a ton of last minute things to do for this race. I mean big important last minute things. Stuff that really takes a toll on a sailor.

Pre-Departure Information and Advice

Counting Down the Hours

With TTD (time to departure) counted in days or hours rather than weeks, most boats are in a high degree of preparation.  For skippers and crews in that mode, we're going to be brief with a few last-minute items.

1.  Be sure you have closed the loop with your inspector on any open items.

Micro-Monitor

11 Days, The countdown has started!

I realized how fast the start date is coming when I started looking
this morning at my list of things to get done around the house before
we leave. I'll fly down to the boat from Portland on Tuesday the 8th
and help finish any minor projects we need to get done.
