M. Charles Festa

I have been sailing on and off for about 6 years. A good chunk of my time at sea has been on open ocean voyages across the Atlantic and Pacific on schooners. I have also worked as crew aboard several yachts in Hawaii, mostly on 57 foot cutter rigs. I have worked "yard" periods on schooners, and done lots of maintenance (including varnish) on various boats. I am not a professional, but I learn quickly, and have a solid knowledge base in basic sail/line handling, sail theory, piloting, navigation (including a penchant for celestial), and basic traditional seamanship. I grew up in New England, so I have a strong "New Englander's work ethic" at sea. I am finishing my Master's Degree in Marine Affairs in May, and am looking to spend more time at sea in order to get my license.
