Chandlery Joins 2008 Pacific Cup as Sponsor
San Francisco, California – Keefe Kaplan Maritime, Inc, “KKMI” to its friends , will be providing sponsorship to the 2008 Pacific Cup race from San Francisco to Hawaii, race officials announced. KKMI has been the starting and equipping point for many successful, safe, and enjoyable runs from San Francisco Bay to Hawaii and beyond.
“We really enjoy working with Pacific Racers,” said KKMI’s General Manager Jock MacLean, “the equipment needs of that long, unsupported passage make this a challenge that we are well-equipped to meet.” KKMI not only consists a top-of-the-line boatyard, but also a fully stocked chandlery, rig shop, engine service station, and electronics center. They provide support to all kinds of marine vessels from small dinghies to mega-racers such as Mari-Cha III and Morning Glory.
In addition to their contribution to support the race, KKMI will be offering a complimentary battery service or fuel filter change to each boat that gets a bottom job their yard. “It’s easy to overlook a weak electrical system when you’re just day-racing in the bay,” commented KKMI’s electronics professional, Ron Romaine, “but once you’re away from your battery charger and running lights, instruments and who knows what else, you may discover weaknesses in your system that can compromise your safety or your ability to make radio calls.” The Pacific Cup race rules prescribe a penalty for boats that fail for any reason to check in by radio daily.
“I’m very pleased to see KKMI on board,” said Michael Moradzadeh, Pacific Cup Rear Commodore. “Not only does KKMI do a great job on my boat, I get peace of mind that things were done right and a bottle of wine, too.”
