Should the Pacific Cup include IRC??

The Pacific Cup Board has spent a great deal of time discussing and considering this question.

The bottom line seems to be that racers have been very pleased with the current system of using ORR and PHRF to arrive at Pacific Cup Ratings (PCRs) for the race.  There has been little or no discussion/debate regarding rating issues following the last few races, so why make a change when you have a good thing going???

On the otherhand, we recognize the fact that IRC is seeing accelerated acceptance both domestically and especially internationally.

Are we missing out on entries that might otherwise sail in the Pacific Cup??

We'd like to hear your thoughts on IRC and the Paciifc Cup.  Please feel free to respond to this message, or email me --- jim at jdgregory.com.

Coming from the thriving sailing metropolis of Portland, Oregon trying to do anything other and PHRF is yet another hurdle to clear. Significant expense for 1 race and very difficult. There are not scales in Portland to weigh boats that I am aware of and someone would have to come from Seattle of SF if I understand the process correctly. While I am very in favor of attempts in equity, it would just be one more thing to do with already tapped resources. Joby Easton Raindrop DH Cascade 36

IRC in the Pac Cup

I strongly believe that the IRC systems should NOT be used in the Pacific Cup. The ORR/PHRF systems works well and should stay. I think you may lose boats by going with IRC (including myself) and that I doubt you are missing out on boats that would enter if you went IRC.
