I'd like to contact the other skippers who are shipping (or who have shipped) their boats back to Oakland via Matson. I've booked the trailer over and boat/trailer back, but I'd like to find out about boat yards and other information in Honolulu.  What boat yard do folks use?  How far is it from Matson at Pier #2? Any other information that might be useful to a first-timer.

Please email me at <broderic@sonic.net> or call 707.528.2109. I'd really like to set up a dialogue among those of us shipping boats back.

Keehi

2 years ago we sailed the boat (E27 around to Keehi. Next morning we rented a Uhaul, picked up the trailer at Matson, and drove to Keehi. They have a truck mounted crane for smaller boats like ours. No need for the travel-lift. A couple of hours getting the boat unrigged for the trip home and we dropped it off again at Matson. Be sure to check what time Matson closes in the afternoon. I seem to recall they leave early.

Overall not a bad deal, but I would much rather have been able to haul at Kaneohe. Seems to me it was $500-$700 for the haul and yard time.

After last time, I thought it might be a good deal to get together with all the small boats and hire a truck-mounted crane to haul at Kaneohe. A guys rate for a day can't be more than what you all will pay elsewhere.

Anyhow, the guys at Keehi were first rate and very helpful. Thay aren't used to hauling small boats onto trailers, so help them out. I remember after we had the boat on the trailer, the guy said, "is that all?" Kind of funny.

Good luck and have a GREAT ride.

Best bet, at least for

Best bet, at least for Cayenne, was Keehi.  Good boatyard and reasonably close to Matson. Maybe a coupla miles.  We had Akana trucking pull the trailer.

In my day, things weren't so new!
