Is there a hoist at Kaneohe YC that can lift an Olson 30 (about 4200 lbs) and will it be available for us to use after the race?

Does anyone know what the

Does anyone know what the weight limits (and costs) are for the AlaWai or Keehi options? My Hobie 33 weighs in at 4420 empty. We can gut it before hauling out if needed. FYI - I have heard stories about the Kaneohe hoist and Olson 30's in the past. As I recall Stray Cat made it to the trailer but the next boat (also an Olson 30) did not.

Sort of, maybe...

There is a hoist, but (a) may not be rated for your boat weight and (b) has been the subject of some problems in the past, leading to the hoist's unavailability for that kind of use.  An avid team is investigating getting a crane or alternative for lifting out at KYC, and there has been discussion of creating an informal race on Wednesday or Thursday from KYC to Keehi to take some of the sting out having to go sailing for half a day in Hawaii

Actually, it's a darned nice sail, but still...

So, right now, plan A should be to lift out at AlaWai or Keehi, with plan B being a crane (for a fee, most likely) at KYC.  Me, I'd plan on the sail, and if you want to invite the Commodore, that'd be fun!

Hawaiian Commodore's Cup Race

Commie,

You're invited to sail the Hawaiian Commodore's Cup Race" to the lift in a Wyliecat.  We'll be in the "stealth" division since we'll just blend in with the other windsurfer rigs.  There's also not much "heavy lifting" on a Wylie and we don't want the Commodore's back to be  out-of-shape for his trip back to the west coast.

Thanks

A race, informal or otherwise sounds great.
