Sailors Have A Blast at Safety Seminar

SAS Pool shot

At the 2010 Safety at Sea seminar at Cal Maritime Academy, over 170 participants were schooled on everything from firefighting to first aid, crew overboard to crew underfoot.  A full day included flare demonstrations, a helicopter rescue (demo), and watching Director Bob Gray jump in the pool fully clothed and try to get into the raft.

He got in, but reports that it was not the most fun of experiences and urges all not to (a) fall off their boats or (b) need a liferaft.

Mayhem Makes 70!

Mayhem Under SailNo sooner had we pointed out that we were nearing our magical mark of 70 than MAYHEM, skippered by Ashley Wolfe turned up on the roster.

This would be a good time to get your entries in order!  We intend to take a certain number of signups beyond 70, but the turnout for the 2010 race is truly gratifying!

Sail On, Roy

We are saddened to report the passing of Roy Disney.  Mr. Disney contributed his time, talent, and resources mightily to the sport of Trans-Pacific racing, most notably in Pywacket which had a splendid career in TransPac as well as Pacific Cup races with records set repeatedly.

Prep Seminar set for October 10

The first PCYC preparation seminar is set for October 10. All day. Save the date. And the evening for the obligatory party.

Entries hit 32. And the Names are as Interesting as the Boats

Por Favor, Limit, Friction Loss, Different Drummer. Heck, even Double Trouble (named in honor of Captain Costello's two kids at the time). The boat names are as creative as the skippers and crew.

Honestly, we are a bit afraid to ask why someone would name their boat "Trunk Monkey," but there ya go.

See the whole list to pick your favorite.

TransPac Finishers! (Update)

Okay, they have been coming in faster than we can track. We can only envision much partying on TransPac row, while crews are already planning their 2010 Pacific Cup.
