Hi,
I apologize in advance if I should not be posting here.
I read the crew list ads and the participants blow my experience away. I am wanting to increase my credentials so maybe someday I can sail a race like this one or at least help with the delivery of a boat. I currently have limited sailing experience as follows:
1. Sailing a Catalina 22 for about 10 years on a lake in the Midwest. All sorts of weather conditions. Have been on 3 knock downs, 1 in St. Louis area and 2 in Denver.
2. Crewed in sailing races on a reservoir in Denver.
3. Crewed in Melbourne, Australia in a club race.
4. Sailed a J-22 on Lake Michigan.
5. Sailed on a friends boat (approx 34 ft. boat) in Long Beach, CA.
6. Sailed a catamaran in Cancun.
7. I have been on a live aboard for a week diving the Great Barrier Reef.
8. Worked with the racing committee setting out markers in the Key West Regatta a few years ago around 2008 simply as a volunteer.
I am planning to take courses this January in Florida ASA 101, 103 and 104. Then travel to the US Virgin Islands in hopes of getting on a boat down there for a couple months. I have my own business and take off the months of January and February each year. I have an engineering degree.
I was hoping for advice on what to do, to increase my resume, in hopes of someday crewing in a race like the subject one. Any advice is appreciated. I love to sail!
Thanks,
Dave
