I'm ready to join your crew! Safety at Sea certified (Feb 2010) and I have attended the prep seminars as well.
Experienced ocean sailor (sounds familiar, doesn't it) with 2 Trans Atlantic delivery experiences ('84 and '91) and numerous coastal distance races in Southern California (CA to Mexico) in the late '70's through the mid '80's. Multilpe seasons on the Bay in boats ranging from a J24 to a Santa Cruz 50 (Acey Duecy, Season Champion 1990). Currently crewing on an Express 27 and the Cal 40, Green Buffalo. There isn't a berth for me on the "Buffalo" this time, but Jim Quanci has graciously offered to be a reference for me.
Qualified to work all positions from the bow to the helm, I'm willing to step in were needed. After an extended break from racing on the Bay, I returned last year and crewed on the Green Buffalo helping to win the 2009 HDA Season Championship. I am available for practice and I'm willing to help with boat preparation prior to departing for Kaneohe Bay. I enjoy Ocean Sailing and I have always had a Pacific crossing to Hawaii on my bucket list.
On a recent surf/sailing adventure off Western Sumatra (The Mentawai's), it was pointed out by the Indonesian crew that while my Bro's were looking towards the next island, I was looking into the vast Indian Ocean, wanting to keep chasing the horizon.
I have an agreeable personality, play well with others, and enjoy being on a winning team. I am respectful and very gracious to have the opportunity to race as a crew member. First Aid and CPR certified. I have a great sense of humor but understand the seriousness of this race. Let's discuss your goals and see if we are on the same planet.
I have been sailing since 1973, learning in the shorts and t-shirt weather of Sandy Eggo sailing on a range of boats from a Sabot to a SC70. I started sailing on the Bay in '88. In my "youth" I was a bowman, and as I have matured I have become an asset to the team in the cockpit, trimming, working the pit or mast. At 6'2", 150+ pounds, I'm a great choice to haul up the mast if necessary.
I am planning on taking the time off of work regardless if I have a ride or not, so PLEASE think of me if you have a crew "shortage" as the start date gets closer. I work in the wine industry as a Viticulturist for Ferrari-Carano, so I am also a great connection for discounted wines (we are going to be friends forever, right?). I love the outdoors and I'm a self proclaimed weather geek, agriculturally speaking.
Blah, Blah, Blah... Thanks for reading this far. Give me a shout!
Oh yeah, all the "I"s will disappear after you put me on your team.
Mahalo,
Jeffrey
