WEST MARINE PACIFIC CUP SAILORS SETTLING IN FOR SAN FRANCISCO-KANEOHE RUN

July 6, 2006

Honolulu -- On day #4 of the West Marine Pacific Cup competition, the several divisions are sorting out their positions under clear skies and friendly winds.

The Double Handed yachts are still led by the mother and son team of Ann and Patrick Lewis on Spirit. The Hobie 33, Celerity has moved into second in today's roll call and Slim, a J-30 with Loren Mollner and his son Mark are now in third place.

Bill Myers' Cirrus, a Standfast 40, flying the Kaneohe Yacht Club burgee now leads the Division A yachts. They are also posting regular reports that can be seen at http://cirrusblogspot.com. Hooligan is reported second in the division with Green Buffalo third.

Tuttu Bene continues to lead the Division B fleet, with Locomotion, a Seattle entry second with Bequia now third.

Relentless, a Sydney 32, skippered by Arnold Zippel leads the Division C racers. Reports from the yacht are similar to those of several competitors who experience the first 24-48 hours in the race as rendering some "queasiness". Fortunately, Zippel brought his brother, Doug along -- a doctor who is listed at the yacht's medic. Auspice, yesterday's division leader is second with Siderno, a Beneteau 473 is listed as third.

In Division D, which started July 5, Riva, a J46 from Portland Yacht Club has the first of their day's lead. Second is Mureadritta'sXL in their fifth race to Hawaii. Two West Marine Pacific Cups, including a division win in 2000 and two Transpacs. Recitivist, a Schumaker 39 is third.

The final starting procedure for the race will be at 2:15pm today with the quick Division E yachts.

Plus Sixteen reported sighting of a whale breaching nearby -- a lovely surprise in a very big ocean.
