Kaneohe, HI -- The Contessa, a 52.5 foot sloop is the first to arrive into Kaneohe Bay at 11:41, Hawaii time. The Swede 55 out of Alameda, California is a double handed entry with veteran sailors, Shawn Throwe and Neil Weinberg aboard. While they arrived first, they were part of the first day's start on July 3. Lightning expected to arrive later Saturday afternoon is seen as the unofficial winner of the overall race on handicap. (Lightning started on July 6)
In addition to The Contessa and lightning, ET, Siderno and Mureadritta's XL should be in before Saturday ends. Sunday's 20 arrivals will appear at the end of this report.
The Contessa will go away with the doublehanded trophy but second and third in the doublehanders is far from settled. Now in second place, Plus Sixteen leads third place, Sprit by only five miles so a major sprint to the finish can occur.
The Division A boats continue to see the stern the leader, California Girl on their tracking chart but only on the charts as second place, Green Buffalo is some 40 miles behind. Hooligan may have and opportunity to challenge Green Buffalo by the time Kaneohe is in their sights. Kaneohe yacht Club entry is fourth with a possibility of moving into the top three.
Division B is led by Tutto Bene with Locomotion shown as second. The Mahoney family's Irish lady is third.
ET has retaken the lead from Basic instinct in Division C. Siderno has also moved up passing Auspice and Sweet Okole. ET is also second in the overall fleet.
Recidivist cranked out 212 miles yesterday to further distance themselves from Synge in Division D. Sapphire, with battery problems and unable to communicate well is now third.
Overall leader with the Division E lead, as well, Lightning had a healthy 230 mile day to stretch the lead out from second place Morpheus. The Ely family's Elyxer is third in the division.
The Mai Tais are flowing, pineapples are at the ready and several happy sailors are about to enjoy Kaneohe Yacht Club's hospitality. The race isn't completely over until all vessels are in Kaneohe Bay. That could be as early as Wednesday, July 19 which means that the party is ripe and ready.
