Honolulu -- The West Marine Pacific Cup San Francisco-Kaneohe race celebrated a million miles of racing yachts across the Pacific Ocean today. A special trophy commemorating the event was earned by California Girl, the Cal 40 out of Richmond Yacht Club. In keeping with the family theme noted throughout the race, California Girl is an entry of the Lessley family with Tim and Betty Lessley as co-Skippers, Timm Lessley as Navigator and crew member Victoria Lessley. The millionth mile was reached as California Girl was left with 668 miles yet to race to Kaneohe.
Lightning continues to lead the entire fleet and its class putting ten miles between its stern and that of the overall second place yacht, Recidivist.
Double handers are still led by The Contessa with Neil Weinberg and Shawn Throwe. They are followed by Plus Sixteen and Slim.
Division A (and millionth mile trophy winner) is California Girl. Hooligan, the Westsail 11.8 is second in the division and Green Buffalo is third.
The Vetter family's Tutto Bene continues to lead the Division B craft. Edward Morgan's Locomotion is second and Irish Lady is third.
ET, a San Francisco Yacht Club entry, continues to lead Division C. A seesaw battle for second and third now finds Basic Instinct running second and Sweet Okole as the third boat in the division.
Ken Olcott's Recidivist, has moved up to the lead of Division D and is second in the over fleet. Synge, with the twin Army Majors, Braden and Darren LeMasters in the crew has moved into second in the division with Sapphire third in the Wednesday roll call.
Division E and fleet leader Lightning maintains an 88 miles lead ahead of the Gregory family 50 foot Morpheus with Kyrnos as third.
If the weather cooperates, the first of the competition should be entering Kaneohe Bay sometime Saturday or Sunday.
