Ko Olina, Oahu & Nawiliwili, Kauai --The Nawiliwili Yacht Club is teaming up with Ko Olina Marina again for another exciting channel race from Ko Olina, Oahu to Nawiliwili, Kauai. The 78 mile race will start in the early morning daylight hours of Friday, August 4, 2006. Everyone in Hawaii who has a sailboat of any type over 21' LOA is invited to participate. The Kauai Channel Race was first sponsored in 1973 by the Hanalei Bay Yacht Club. In the early days the race started in Honolulu and finished in Hanalei Bay. In 1981 the torch was passed to the Nawiliwili Yacht Club. The finish line was then moved to Nawiliwili Harbor. Since 2004 NYC has teamed up with Ko Olina Marina to sponsor the current version of the channel race.

“We welcome all West Marine Pacific Cup and Vic Maui Racers to Hawaii and cordially invite them to participate in the Kauai Channel Race and attend a great party on Saturday after the race.” said NYC Rear Commodore Dick Olsen.

Entry forms are available on the web at http://www.kauaichannelrace.com or by contacting the Nawiliwili Yacht Club’s Secretary Sharon Gibson at 808-742-2512. The $80 entry fee includes up to 3 days of slip fees at Ko Olina Marina before the start and at Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor after the finish on a space available basis at both harbors. The entry fee also includes: one ticket to the awards banquet and party, one Kauai Channel Race t-shirt, and one commemorative poster. The Awards Ceremony and party will take place on Saturday evening, August 5, 2006. As in years past, this will be a fun evening of dancing to the high energy rock and roll of Kauai’s popular band Groove Daddies. The evening’s entertainment will also includes door prizes, a silent auction, which will feature several Kauai tour activities, and the awards presentation.
