2004 West Marine Pacific Cup

Race Tracking/Scoring Software

NOTE: The "official" copy of the Pcup04.ini configuration file was distributed at the Skippers and Navigators meeting on June 26, 2004. You can download the latest copy of this file by saving the target of this link.

This page provides a basic introduction to the tracking and scoring software used for the WMPC Yacht Race. These programs may be used for recording roll-call position data and for tracking boats in the 2004 West Marine Pacific Cup yacht race from San Francisco, CA to Kaneohe, HI, and/or for other trans-pacific yacht races. They provide an ability for calculating both running and final fleet and division standings for boats in the race.

Running standings are calculated from 0900 PDT (0600 HST) roll-call positions. Final standings are calculated from HST finish times.

The program is available in two versions -- the free "Demo" version - PCUP4.EXE which may be downloaded using the link below and the "Bodacious" version - PCUP4B.EXE. These programs run under any Windows-compatible operating system (Windows 95 or later). The DEMO version is available for free, and is licensed for use by all WMPC racers and Committee. The Bodacious version is sold for $50. Contact John Clauser or Bobbi Tosse at Ph:925-939-9885, Fx:925-906-9282, e-mail: Bobbi_John@jfcbat.com.

The "Bodacious" version also provides detailed tracking, plotting, and performance figures-of-merit, to allow you to determine how close (or far apart) various competitors are at any given point, on a corrected-time basis. Continuous rankings and figures-of-merit may be displayed, for the fleet as a whole, by division, and/or for a single boat. A compact .txt file (abt. 5kB) suitable for transmission via Sailmail contains a list of all ETA's and positions for any given day.

The positions, tracks, and same-day lines of boats in a division (or in a custom-selected set) may be plotted, either on a Mercator chart or on a Great-Circle chart. Zoom and pan capability is also provided for these charts.

All reports are generated as .txt files, and all charts are generated as .bmp graphics files, so that they all may be accessed, edited, and/or printed by standard Windows programs, such as Microsoft "Notepad" and Microsoft "Paint".

These programs are major revisions of the earlier-offerd programs Pcup0 and Pcup0b. While the data file formats for both programs remain unchanged, Various bugs are corrected, report formats are improved, and many new capabilities (esp. with graphics) are included in the new program versions. Users of these previous programs are strongly urged to upgrade.

You can download a copy of the demo program by saving the target of this link.
